Q: WHO IS STEPHEN HOPKINS?

A: I'm a multi-diciplinary designer with works ranging from architectural design, staging design, clothing design and more.

WHERE ARE YOU CURRENTLY BASED?

My studio is based in Boston, MA.

WHAT IS COLOR?

Color is a tool.

AND HOW DO YOU USE IT?

I use color for mood and texture. Often times I prefer to see tones of the same color next to each other instead of constrast.

WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR WORK?

Observation of the world around me. Industrial spaces, worn materials, remanants of objects, architectural theory, music, form, movement, composition, philosophy.

HOW DO YOU APPROACH DESIGN?

I try to think of design as a communication tool/technique to tell a story or evoke an emotion. Never should the final piece have a resolution or one definition.

WHY FASHION?

Fashion is something we put on our bodies and identify with. I love the idea of something that ages with the wearer and becomes an extension of them.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Refinement.

WHAT WORDS DO YOU LIVE BY?

Pare down to the essence, but don't remove the poetry.
